Course description

This module will cover the methodology of information research, information selection and the techniques of document monitoring, in the disciplines covered by the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Life Sciences Department of the Faculty of Science. 
 
Emphasis will be placed on querying specialized bibliographic databases. However, depending on the topics participants are working on, other resources may be discussed. 
 
The course will combine theoretical presentations with individual exercises. During these individual exercises, participants will have the opportunity to work on the subjects that concern them. 
 
Course content 
 
The course will consist of different parts covering : 

• formulating a precise question ; 
• search for information (and its methodology) in specialized resources, such as CAB Abstracts®, Embase®, Medline® (Ovid® or PubMed® interface), Scopus®, SciFinder® ; 
• rapid selection of the most relevant references or documents on the basis of quality indices. 

Learning objectives

The training will aim to foster autonomy in the search for scientific information. At the end of this theoretical and practical training course, participants will be able to: 

• correctly formulate their information needs 
• choose the types of documents and resources to consult; 
• interact effectively with specialized information retrieval tools; 
• adapt their research strategies according to their objectives; 
• select documents likely to provide relevant information on the basis of a critical evaluation
